What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a SECURITY POLICE OFCR I
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Rate of Pay: $31.03-33.83 per hour.
- The Security Police Officer I (SPO I) is responsible for safe observation, assessment, reporting and alarm response on Sandia National Labs Property. SPO I armed status has limited arrest authority for certain conditions under 161K of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954.
- Read and follow General Orders, procedures and individual post orders.
- Maintain routine records, operate communications equipment and motor vehicles.
- Assist in controlling access into secure areas, as appropriate, based on site specific security requirements and established identification procedures, to include the control of vehicle access.
- May perform Security Command Center duties as needed, responding to alarms and dispatching patrols.
- Act as first responder to medical emergencies.
- Take appropriate action in response to security incidents to ensure best possible outcomes.
- Successfully pass and maintain applicable physical standards and certifications to perform the essential job duties.
- As a condition of employment, Security Police Officers are represented by the Security Police Association (SPA) and represented employees must pay the monthly membership dues or agency fee.
- Job incumbents will perform most, if not all, of the activities defined and additional activities defined according to site specific requirements.

Qualifications We Require:
- Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance or a Department of Defense Top Secret and a TRF100 (SPOI) Tactical Response Force I certification to start
- Ability to maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.
- This is a mission essential on-site position, which requires personnel to report to work in most circumstances to ensure the continued security, operation, and success of our organization.
- Applicants must be 21 years of age, be a US Citizen, and have a current driver's license and have ability to operate vehicles required to perform essential duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to pass and maintain medical physical and psychological requirements established for SPO I designation under Code of Federal Regulations, Title 10, Chapter X, Part 1046 – Medical, Physical Readiness, Training and Access Authorization Standards for Protective Force Personnel (10 CFR 1046.11, .12, .13) ( https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-10/chapter-X/part-1046 ) .
- After job offer acceptance, the applicant will undergo comprehensive medical evaluation per 10 C.F.R 1046.12 and .13, to determine their ability to meet qualification standards, which include, but are not limited to: sense of smell, speech, hearing, vision, cardiorespiratory, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, neurological, mental and emotional.
- Ability to pass and maintain fitness and firearm requirements and all applicable trainings and assessments identified in DOE Orders and 10 CFR 1046 and 1047 ( https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-10/chapter-X/part-1047 ).
- Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), with capability of wearing equipment weighing in excess of 17 lbs, for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work at night, have near and far acuity, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision in accordance with 10 CFR 1046 standards.
- Ability to work in high-risk environment; possess knowledge, skills and ability to perform effectively under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations, or in situations in which immediate responsiveness and sustained attention are significant aspects of the job.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and ensure accuracy in documentation and data review.
- Applicants must have basic Computer and Math skills.
- Applicants must be able to work flexible hours, overtime, and rotate duties and schedules as assigned
- The current work schedule is based on twelve (12) hour shifts.
- Physical Requirements
- The applicant must be able to perform a variety of duties and physical demands, such as: stand, walk, sit, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, hear, taste, and smell, and have visual requirements including night vision, near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, color vision, accommodation and field of vision, in order to perform essential functions
- Applicants must be able to run one (1) mile in 8 minutes and 30 seconds, run a 40-yard dash in 8.5 seconds.
- Applicants must be able to meet and maintain fitness and firearm requirements as well as the ability to maintain all required certifications, licenses, and qualifications
- DOE regulations are the basic authority for the establishment of firearms, medical, and physical fitness standards for security personnel. Protective Force personnel shall participate in a mandatory DOE approved Physical Maintenance Training Program on a continuing basis
The SPO may be required to demonstrate their continued ability to meet physical fitness qualification standards during inspections, surveys, reviews, audits, or other situations directed by DOE line management
Qualifications We Desire:
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with employees, management, customers, etc.; ability to clearly present information through spoken or written words; and the ability to interpret complex information.
- An in-depth knowledge of pertinent DOE Orders, Safeguards and Security Standards, ES&H requirements, and regulations.
- 4 Year College Degree in relevant discipline

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
