Phlebotomist LTA I

Draws blood from City of Hope patients and donors using appropriate approved procedures, guidelines and standards.Provides support and assistance with a variety of tasks within Clinical Pathology - Medical Oncology Laboratory, Outpatient Laboratory and Specimen Processing areas.Works under the direction of the Phlebotomy Supervisor as part of the Clinical Pathology department team in fulfilling department and medical center objectives.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Draws blood in accordance with physician order using appropriate techniques and equipment. Observes patient for any unusual reactions or events, before, during and after procedure. Takes appropriate action following established guidelines.
  • Greets patients, process the laboratory orders, and directs patients to their next station.
  • Prioritizes work and provides prompt and efficient service.
  • Collects and delivers specimens for analysis, using appropriate or specified equipment for collecting and handling specimens.Ensures proper labeling and obtains pertinent clinical information on request forms.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of various aspects of processing specimens. Centrifuges blood specimens in test tubes and capillary tubes to separate cells and sediment from blood serum. Coordinates and routes specimens to proper area of the laboratory.
  • Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.
  • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department and interdepartmental objectives and maintain good employee relations.

Additional Information:

  • Current Work Schedule: 40 hours per week from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Your qualifications should include:

  • High School or equivalent (Approved GED)
  • 0 to 1 year Patient facing healthcare or laboratory experience
  • California Phlebotomy Technician License
  • Basic Life Support CPR Card from the American Heart Association

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $23.99 - $35.99 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
