Job Description
Job DescriptionAshland University, a comprehensive institution, seeks applications for an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Biology in the Department of Biology and Toxicology to begin August 2025. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in the Biology major, such as Human Anatomy and Physiology, Vertebrate Biology, and Cell Biology, courses that serve science majors and pre-health students, along with other courses that fall within the candidate’s areas of expertise. Candidates with appropriate expertise may also teach human-cadaver based Anatomy and Physiology courses for health sciences majors. The candidate should have demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduates.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program mentoring undergraduate research students as well as engage in service activities. The research area is open but should be suitable for undergraduate students. The department is well equipped with dedicated laboratories for tissue culture and microbiology, a vivarium, thermal cyclers including a qPCR thermal cycler, UV/VIS spectrometers, microscopes with phase, Nomarski and fluorescence optics and other equipment. HPLC, GCMS, and ion chromatographs as well as Raman spectrometers are available in the Chemistry department. The Environmental Sciences Program manages five environmental preserves in Ohio, and faculty are encouraged to engage in field research there. Collaborations with AU faculty and outside faculty are supported. Start-up funds for equipment and supplies for new faculty members are available.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in an area of Biology is required
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in Vertebrate Physiology, Cell Biology or a related field, is preferred
Post-doctoral research experience is preferred
