Summary

The Center for Biomedical Engineering & Nano-Biophotonics in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic Research Operations Associate (ROA) to oversee all lab operations. The mission of the Center for Biomedical Engineering & Nano-Biophotonics is to translate nano-biophotonic technologies into clinical applications for cancer diagnostics and therapy. Both human tissue samples and sophisticated animal models will be utilized and analyzed using the most advanced technologies. The ROA will oversee research personnel, funding and center daily operations.

Job Duties

  • Preparation and submission of proposals for acquisition of research funding (50%)
    • Identify new funding opportunities from Federal, State, Foundation and Industry sponsors and assess relevance to the Center’s capabilities
  • Prepare and maintain templates for non-research sections of research proposals. Sections include but are not limited to:
    • Facilities and Other Resources
    • Biosketches
    • Budget Justifications
    • Quotes for any requested equipment
    • Multi-investigator leadership plans
    • Letters of collaboration
    • Resource Sharing Plans
    • Animal subjects
    • Human Subjects
  • Prepare Initial Budget Spreadsheets and Coordinate with BCM OSP
  • Edit scientific/research sections of proposals for readability and presentation
  • Coordinate with BCM OSP for submission of all proposals
  • Manage Center Director’s Calendar and schedule meetings (5%)
  • Review and submit all purchase orders for the Center (10%)
  • Manage communications with candidate vendors on product/service availability (5%)
  • Use AI to record and edit minutes of all laboratory meetings (1%)
  • Prepare, submit and maintain all IACUC animal protocols (10%)
  • Prepare, submit and maintain all IRB protocols involving human subjects (10%)
  • Manage inventory for all laboratory supplies (5%)
  • Coordinate and schedule all laboratory inspections and safety monitoring (2%)
  • Ensure laboratory personnel required training is current (2%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
