This position description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. Medical Assistants are unlicensed individuals who perform under the direction of a licensed provider basic administrative, clerical, and non-invasive routine technical supportive services. Non-invasive technical supportive services are defined as simple, routine medical tasks and procedures. Recognizes and reports changes in a patients’ condition. Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization. The duties may vary from setting to setting, depending on the size, location, and type. Applies good interpersonal and communication process utilizing verbal and non-verbal skills to achieve organizational service goals of customer satisfaction and a positive work environment.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Prepares for patient visits by reviewing/updating records and ensuring referrals are in place.

  • Sets up exam rooms and ensures necessary instruments are available.

  • Rooms patients, records vitals, chief complaint, medications, and alerts care team to abnormal findings.

  • Assists providers during exams and procedures, ensuring safety protocols and effective communication.

  • Performs basic clinical tasks including injections, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and ADL support.

  • Maintains sterile techniques during procedures and ensures proper handling/disposal of instruments and specimens per OSHA/CLIA standards.

  • Provides patient education using approved materials.

  • Manages exam room cleanliness, supply stocking, and inventory reporting.

  • Schedules tests, procedures, and pre-certifications as needed.

  • Maintains HIPAA compliance, attends required trainings, and participates in staff meetings.

Your qualifications should include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Training in specialty specific assisting a plus
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers from the American Heart Association

  • This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit.

City of Hope employees pay is based on the following criteria: work experience, qualifications, and work location.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $22.67 - $31.66 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
