Postbaccalaureate Research Scholar Dawson Lab
Department: Cell Cycle & Cancer Biology

Position Overview & Responsibilities
This two-year, postbaccalaureate research opportunity in the Dawson Lab, is designed for students seeking hands-on experience to strengthen their preparation for graduate or professional school in STEM or healthcare fields. Scholars will receive close mentorship, professional development, and opportunities to engage in the scientific community through:
- Individualized guidance from faculty mentors through daily interactions and weekly meetings
- Participation in graduate-level workshops and seminars focused on skill building and career development
- Additional mentoring from senior graduate students and postdoctoral scientists on navigating graduate school and scientific careers
- Opportunities to present research at local and national meetings, as well as contribute to peer-reviewed publications
- Prepare media and maintain laboratory stocks of solutions and reagents
- Conduct experiments under the guidance of a senior scientist
- Act as the primary contact/mentor for high school students performing research projects
- Use molecular genetics techniques, live cell imaging, and protein purification in research experiments
- Work on projects using yeast or mammalian tissue culture cells to explore chromosome segregation during meiosis and mitosis
- Gain hands-on experience in experimental design, lab techniques, and data analysis
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS degree in biological sciences, physics, chemistry, or equivalent hands-on laboratory experience
- Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for working as part of a supportive, collaborative team
- Eagerness to learn new techniques and the ability to work independently once trained
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with R, python, and computational skills would be desirable but not required
Work Hours
- Typically, Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM.
